Sharp rise in annual diesel bills
Share:

There seems to be little sign of any positive news for recovery operators battling to keep their running costs under control, with almost a cent a litre added to the average cost of diesel last month. According to AA Ireland, this means fuel costs are 18.5% up on this time last year.

Rising crude oil prices have been largely off set by exchange rate fluctuations of late, meaning diesel prices have at least been relatively stable. However, the major concern for operators, is that the government will increase the tax take on fuel again in the budget. Two thirds of the cost of diesel at the pump already goes to the government and it is feared that any further increases could force some companies out of business.
