SKF provide QR code productivity boost

SKF has become the first automotive wheel bearing supplier to introduce QR codes on the packaging for its aftermarket range of wheel bearing kits. These codes will give technicians instant access to detailed product and technical information and help to  reduce both fitting and customer waiting times.

Liam O’Donohoe of SKF distributors Serfac Limited, explains, “SKF wants to help customers minimise the time needed for vehicle maintenance and repair, while maximising the value provided with every sale. Adding QR codes to packaging means that anyone with a camera equipped smartphone or tablet can instantly access a complete online library of information, much of which is specific to the wheel bearing kit they are using.” He added, “This will help them identify the correct product and fitting instructions and where available, find essential technical data, troubleshoot problems and access training materials. The result is a unique resource that enables garage technicians and service managers to improve the productivity and profitability of their aftermarket operations still further”.

The new QR codes will initially be used with SKF’s extensive range of wheel bearing kits – VKBA - and wheel bearing and brake kits – VKBD.

The full list of online resources available via the new QR codes includes: fitting instructions for the SKF wheel bearing kits technical bulletins, searchable product catalogue, product pictures, kit content and ultimately access to SKF Pole Position library of vehicle specific technical data and links to installation videos, dedicated training and other SKF apps.

The introduction of QR codes is part of an on-going value added programme from SKF, which includes a wide range of online resources.  The programme is designed to help customers improve business efficiency by giving them immediate access to critical information, while enabling SKF to reduce its carbon footprint by minimising the volume of printed materials.
