As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, Ford recently decided it would be a good idea to recreate a 1965 publicity stunt where it placed one of its iconic cars on the observation deck of the Empire State Building.
Back in the day, having set the goal of putting a car at the top of the tallest building in the world, Ford looked at various options. With no crane tall enough to lift the car, it seen as too dangerous to use a helicopter, and the lifts too small to take the vehicle, the chosen solutions was to literally to chop the car into pieces and put it back together on the observation deck.
50 years on experts once again looked at the same problem and you would think might be able to use all of the latest technology to solve the dilemma in a different way? But after careful consideration it was decided that the best solution was once again to take the car, in this case the latest 2014 open top model, chop it into elevator sized pieces, bring to the top of the still iconic but far from the world’s tallest building and put it back together.
50 years on, it seems that even with all the latest computer power, it is still hard to beat the ingenuity of the generation that put a man on the moon.
