A team of Australian Engineers is set to unveil a sleek, silent solar-electric sports car at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas. Called the Immortus the one-off concept is made by EVX Ventures.


The car features 75 square feet of silicon photovoltaic cells on the roof and also has a plug-in electric powertrain with a lithium-ion battery pack and hub motors in the rear wheels. Around the size of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, the Immortus is said to offer sports car handling and performance. The makers say that on a sunny day, the car travelling at about 50mph can cover 340 miles before requiring a plug-in recharge. Range is said to be unlimited on solar power alone at a constant 37mph.
