Irish FIA World Rallycross Championship driver Derek Tohill produced one of his strongest drives of the season so far at the Estering in Germany at the weekend. Driving his Citroen DS3 showed great pace throughout the event matching LD Motorsports team mates Davy Jeanney and Henning Solberg.
Derek was 25th in the strong field at the end of day one. He joined rally and rallycross legend Per Eklund on the grid for his third heat encounter and managed 19th time in some adverse conditions which did not impact on the later heats.
The final heat race of the weekend was the best yet from the PartsforCars driver, who made a good start and led the race from start to finish. The result placed Derek 20th overall from the 41 starters, the biggest entry of the season.
Derek said, “The pace has been good all weekend and we have been very close to Henning. This has probably been our strongest performance since Finland. It’s been nice to be running at a strong pace, had it not been for being held up on day one I’m confident that we would have been knocking on the door of the semi-finals here. The apprenticeship continues.”
The tenth round of the World RX championship takes place at the Franciacorta International circuit in Italy next week.
