Electric car maker Tesla believes a turning point has been reach in consumer acceptance of all electric vehicles. The company says it has receieved 325,000 pre-orders for its new Model 3 in what they say is “the single biggest one-week launch of any product ever.”
The figures are very impressive. 325,000 orders for the $35,000 electric car equates to $14 billion in implied future sales and with buyers all putting down $1,000 reserves, Tesla has already made move to upgrade production.
The model is a compact executive size car with its advanced lithium ion batteries and all-electric powertrain providing a minimum range of 215 miles. It also offers impressive performance and a head turning look designed to change consumer perception of electric cars.
