A new Green Flag survey of 2,266 drivers makes the not unsurprising claim, that women drivers are not up to speed with their male counterparts when it comes to car maintenance.
Four in five women cannot change a tyre and 46pc admit avoiding lifting the bonnet at all costs. As many as 88pc of men claim to be able to diagnose simple mechanical problems compared with only 52pc of women. The breakdown company's researchers found that more than four in five women did not know how to check fluid levels, while 12pc described their roadside breakdown as 'frightening'. Only 9pc of those aged 18-24 were able to fix minor problems by the roadside, compared with nearly 15pc aged over 55.
