The consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas provided a showcase for some of the latest automotive technology with an emphasis on self-drive vehicle technology. German-based Continental Automotive Systems displayed its view of the future with its Safely There mobile exhibit, which sees cars warning other cars about road dangers. Meanwhile, Carnegie Mellon University was displaying a Chevrolet Tahoe, capable of manoeuvring without a driver along city streets, weaving safely through traffic and even parallel parking.

Carnegie Mellon director of technology Chris Urmson said: ‘We are a decade away from a car that drives itself.’
