Harry Kelliher is the owner of a Honda Accord 2.2 VTEC, which he bought new from McElligotts Honda in Tralee in 1997. To date Mr. Kelliher’s car has clocked up over 265, 000 miles (456,000km) driving all over the country.

What makes this car so interesting is that the car is still on its original clutch and the only items that have been replaced above and beyond the normal routine maintenance were a handbrake cable and a battery.  

The secret to its longevity is regular service, and Mr Kelliher ensures that his car gets a service every 20,000 miles. He also keeps a regular eye on the tyre pressures and fluid levels which he checks every second time he refuels the car, (something which a lot of us drivers tend to forget these days).

Mr Kelliher added: “I have to pay tribute to the dedication of the technicians in McElligotts who have looked after the car since I bought it.  It would not be in such good working condition without the outstanding workmanship of the service team at McElligotts who take such an interest in this particular car.  I think they have grown as attached to the car as I have!”   Mr Kelliher intends driving many more miles in his diesel Accord.
