Tim Ward is retiring from his position as Deputy General Manager, Key Accounts for NGK Spark Plugs in April. The 60-year-old now plans to devote more time to his hobbies of watching Rugby League, playing golf, walking and cycling and is planning to go on a 500-mile bike ride in the USA to raise funds for the Rugby League Cares charity.

Tim said, "I will miss many of my colleagues and many of the people I do business with a great deal. I have always appreciated how well NGK has been received in the automotive aftermarket. I have thoroughly enjoyed the interaction I have had with my customers and have also enjoyed the good relations I’ve had working with the other departments within NGK.”

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Managing Director Marko Wowczyna said, “Tim has been the face of NGK for many years and has made a significant contribution to the success of the brand during his 21 years with the company. He has forged strong relationships with our valued customers, and with his colleagues at NGK, who will I’m sure miss his direct approach, integrity and great sense of humour.”

Also on the horizon for Tim is the UK Red Empire State 500, an epic 500-mile bike ride from Niagara Falls to Central Park, New York, which is taking place on June 5-10. Tim was invited to participate in the event having taken part in previous cycle rides to raise money for Rugby League Cares. All riders are required to pay a participation fee to help cover some of the costs of their flights and accommodation and must commit to reaching a minimum fundraising target.

He said: “I must admit to being both thrilled and daunted by the challenge and ambition of the UK Red Empire State 500. I have not missed a season as a Rugby League supporter on the terrace since 1994, I have seen the commitment of those who love and play the sport and how they may be finding it tough when they finish the game through injury or retirement. The money raised helps to make a difference to their quality of life.”
