OE and aftermarket brakes manufacturer, TMD Friction, recently hosted the next generation of mechanical engineers at its factory, to allow them to learn more about the development of its braking solutions.

During the tour of the facility, students from North Lindsey College witnessed first-hand how TMD Friction’s annual €30 million investment is utilised to ensure its brands offer some of the most innovative and reliable braking solutions on the market.

The pupils were invited on the tour as part of TMD Friction’s investment into supporting young people within the industry. Later in the year the facility, in the North East of England, will host more students in a bid to encourage them to choose a career within the automotive sector.

Scott Irwin, head of technical training at TMD Friction, said, “The industry is suffering as a whole from a skills shortage as more technicians are retiring compared to the number of new entrants coming in. To counteract this, TMD Friction is committed to protecting the future of the automotive market by inspiring and involving pupils from an early age to encourage their passion for the industry.” He added, “Interacting with the next generation of mechanical engineers is fantastic for TMD Friction and it’s great to see the students getting a taste for the job.”
