Derek Tohill has scored a spectacular victory at Round 7 of the 2010 FIA European Rallycross Championship at Maasmechelen in Belgium. In front of 15,000 spectators, he beat off some stiff competition from many drivers, including local hero and former World Rally Championship winner, Francois Duval.
Derek only managed eighth place in qualifying after a slight mishap as he explored the limits of the Duivelsberg circuit in his Ford Fiesta MK7. His Rallycross Rebels team worked long into the night on modifications, which paid off on Sunday when he was able to post the third fastest time, followed by the second fastest time in the final qualifying heat.
In the final after a blistering start, Derek was able to hold off a very strong field to take the chequered flag ahead of young Norwegian Lars Øivind Enerberg and Ole Kristian Nottveit.
With three races left the European championship standings are Knut Ove Børseth (103 points) Tohill (97 points) Nøttveit (97 points) third.
