Derek Tohill, the sole Irish representative in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, takes his challenge transatlantic this weekend and is aiming for a solid haul of points at the seventh round of the series in Canada.
It is the first ever World Rallycross event to be held outside Europe and will be part of the famous GP3R event at the Trois-Rivieres circuit near Montreal. Derek says, "It’s fantastic to compete in North America with World RX, it's an important market and great to have the opportunity to compete in Canada against such a talented field of drivers.” He added, “I have travelled early to Canada with my family to take a holiday, prepare for the event and importantly to ensure to experience none of the effects of jet lag so I am at the top of my game. It will be great to have my family supporting me".
After some challenging recent events the double TouringCar champion is looking forward to getting back on track in his LD Motorsports Citroen DS3 Supercar, adding to his points tally of the season so far, and improving on his 17th place in the World Drivers Championship. Derek commented, “We are hoping the street track will suit me and the car. More Championship points is the target, and that means doing everything we can to make the semi finals.”
