Toyota is off to a flying start for 2014, with 2,794 new car sales in January, making it the number one seller in the Irish passenger vehicle market.

Toyota's sales figures represent a 12.2 % share of new vehicle sales as stated in SIMI's January 2014 report on registration numbers for passenger vehicles, just published by the SIMI.

The overall car market has increased by 33% over the same period in 2013 and sees Toyota outperforming the market with a 50% increase in sales. Toyota's growth has been led by strong demand across the range, particularly for new models such as the Auris, Corolla and RAV4.

Commenting on the news, David Shannon, Managing Director of Toyota Ireland said: "We're very happy with the way 2014 has started, increasing our sales by 50% over 2013 and out preforming the market. The overall increase of 33% year on year is clear proof that consumer confidence is returning to the car market.

"Toyota has never been in a better position to capitalise on the renewed sales activity, given the strength of our brand and model line-up, which currently offers the newest and widest range of vehicles of any car manufacturer in Ireland. In addition customers are finding our dedicated solus Dealer Network approach, coupled with Toyota's proven 'best in market'  resale value to be particularly attractive."
