Tobacco-style “health warnings” could soon be featuring on car advertisements, thanks to plans being put forward by the European Commission. A recent Commission meeting in Brussels saw environmental activists, advertisers and carmakers, come together to discuss whether 20% of every car advert should be devoted to information about fuel consumption and emissions.
Such a proposal goes a lot further than present small print rules, which means fuel consumption and emissions information has to be featured in press and poster campaigns. The EU now wants to make this information far more prominent and also extend it to TV, Internet and radio advertisements.
