Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems are now more and more common on vehicles on Irish roads, meaning that this sector can offer independent garages some excellent business potential. Tool and equipment supplier Tech’n’Tools was one of the first companies to offer a complete TPMS programme for the aftermarket and has now been a leader in this field for some 10 years ago.

Tech’n’Tools has developed and enhanced its comprehensive range of sensors, tools and consumables during this time, making it available through Tech’n’Tools stockists nationwide.

Partnering with Tyresure, Tech’n’Tools TPMS solution allows for the correct servicing and maintenance of these safety-critical items. This includes diagnostic tools to enable non-destructive analysis of TPMS and a full range of OE and configurable TPMS sensors and consumables for complete coverage of sensor diagnostics, servicing and replacement parts.

Tech’n’Tools says the lifespan of a sensor is generally 3 to 10 years before the battery will need replacing depending on make and model of the car. However, sensors can become faulty or fail due to weather damage, corrosion or accidental damage caused when changing tyres.

All manufacturers recommend that TPMS sensors should be checked regularly and serviced every time a tyre is changed or the sensor is removed. It is generally advisable to replace the Valve core and stem components at this point.

When replacement sensors are fitted to a vehicle, the tyre fitter may need to program the new sensor to the car using specialist TPMS or diagnostic equipment. If a TPMS sensor does develop a fault, it is important that under no circumstances should this be replaced with a ‘standard’ non-TPMS type valve. Removing the sensor will not only reduce safety on the road, but will also result in the vehicle failing its NCT test.

The component that provides a seal has a “memory” of where it was placed and the amount of clamping force. When the old seal is taken off the rim, it is deformed and will not properly reseal when retightened. The installation of a new service kit will provide the sealing components for each applicable sensor whether they are Clamp-In or Snap-In.

Tech’n’Tools offers a full range of TPMS Diagnostic Tools that enable fault analysis, low-frequency sensor activation, and synchronisation of new sensors. It can also supply workshop tool kits that contain all of the workshop tools required for servicing or replacing TPMS sensors as well as a full range of both OE and configurable sensors. It can also offer access to TPMS software where required.

As well as this Tech’n’Tools can provide training to workshops on both TPMS diagnostic equipment and sensors and consumables, meaning they can make the most of their TPMS business potential.
