Gates has added to its TechZone, instructions on fitting a timing belt on certain Subaru petrol engines.

Gates TechZone offers garage technicians and workshops all technical information relating to belt drives and cooling systems. The latest information (Tech Tip 13) concerns Gates timing belts, 5241, 5384XS, 5537XS, 5612XS + Kits for Subaru 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5L Petrol engine vehicles.

Gates say that in certain Subaru engines it is critical to ensure the correct clearance is achieved between the timing belt guide plate and the timing belt as incorrect clearance can cause extreme heat, premature component failure and engine damage. The new tip shows how the Gates GAT0001 Spacer Tool helps installers to ensure the correct clearance is achieved to prevent costly premature timing belt drive failure.

The instructions are also availabe on techtips.ie. To view please click here.
