With the automotive industry in Ireland currently facing a skills shortage, one further education establishment is helping to combat this issue, by offering two highly respected courses in vehicle maintenance.
Plunket College of Further Education in Whitehall Dublin, with the support and funding of Solas and the City of Dublin Educational and Training Board, offers courses designed to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge, to succeed in this fast moving technological field.
Course 1 is a QQI Level 5 Pre-Apprenticeship Motor Vehicle Maintenance course, that is perfect for those who want to progress to an apprenticeship, Level 6 National Craft Certificate. This course covers a range of subjects, including Motor Vehicle Theory, Auto Electricity, Motor Vehicle Practice, Health and Safety, Work Experience and Communications. With hands-on experience in a fully equipped workshop, participants learn about engines, gearboxes, steering and suspension systems on in-house vehicles and purpose-built training aids.
Course 2 is a QQI Level 5 Motor Technology course, designed for school leavers and mature students who want to progress to further education options, or higher-level degree courses in automotive or mechanical engineering, aviation, transport logistics, and more.
Upon successfully completing these one-year programs, students graduate with a highly regarded QQI Level 5 Major Award qualification in Motor Technology. This provides a clear progression route through the CAO education options and a range of exciting careers in related fields.
