10.00am on Friday January 29th 2016 marked the end of an era of motoring history. At this time the very last Land Rover Defender rolled off the production line at the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull after 67 remarkable years.

More than two million Land Rovers have been made since the original in 1948 and whist it is still hugely popular around the world, it is concerns over meeting emission targets that have seen the iconic vehicle’s demise.

Workers cheered as the last Defender was completed, but there was also sadness as the life span of the longest-running production car in the world came to an end.

A testament to the quality of the design and production is that it is estimated that 70% of Land Rovers ever built are still in use. A replacement model for the Defender is set to be launched at the end of the year.
