Consultation on BS 10125 repair standard update

Guidance that forms the basis of some repair standards adopted in the Irish market is currently up for review and public consultation in the UK. An update of BS 10125, the specification for the vehicle damage repair in the UK, is now open to public consultation up to January 14th 2022.

The update includes more information on the repair of electric vehicles and on ADAS systems. It also takes away the capacity for repairers to adopt their own in-house repair methods. The draft document also includes a section confirming alignment to VRA UK Standards on the use of reclaimed parts from End of Life Vehicles, a fast growing area of the UK repair market.

The aim of the new standard is to future proof accredited bodyshop in their repair process moving forward and to ensure they are ready to meet future repair challenges. It is hoped that the standard will also create a clearer technician career development path.
