The innovation of Dayco power transmission systems and the close relationships the company has forged with Europe’s top vehicle manufacturers has been recognised in the latest Engine of the Year awards organised by Engine Technology International Magazine.

Ford’s innovative 999cc three-cylinder turbo was crowned the ‘International Engine of the Year’ for the second year running, with the VW 1.4 litre TSI unit taking the runners-up spot. Dayco supplies the primary drive systems for both of these engines.

In the 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre category, Dayco also designed, developed and patented both the single-arm torsion bar tensioner and the motorised friction pulley on the winning BMW-PSA 1.6 litre turbo petrol unit. In order to allow reliable and silent contact with the friction wheel, Dayco also developed a special drive belt for this application.

The ‘New Engine’ category was won by the VW 1.4 litre TSI unit and with the 999cc Ford unit also winning the ‘Sub 1-litre’ category, Dayco’s remarkable showing in these high calibre awards was complete.

The awards are judged by more than 80 of the world’s most respected motoring journalists from 35 countries.
