DENSO expands A/C offer

DENSO Aftermarket Sales has announced the addition of three new ranges to its A/C Components programme to offer customers a complete solution to their A/C needs.

The new additions include 285 types of Receiver Driers, 70 types of Pressure Switches and 100 types of Expansion Valves, to complement the existing range of A/C Compressors and Condensers.

Each of the ranges is suitable for a wide range of applications including many popular car, commercial vehicle, plant and agricultural vehicles from leading manufacturers.

Receiver Driers are featured in systems with a thermal expansion valve or TXV, after the condenser. Systems with an orifice tube (fixed restrictor) have an accumulator tank installed after the evaporator. The functions of these parts are in general the same with the difference that the receiver drier is a gas separator and the accumulator tank is a liquid separator. Other functions include storage of refrigerant, filtration and drying.  DENSO advises replacing the receiver drier or accumulator tank when the system has been empty or opened, even if it is only to replace a simple o-ring. This is because the drying material inside is designed for one time only installation.  Once opened a second time it will be saturated with water after being exposed to the outside air.

The expansion valve causes rapid refrigerant expansion by injecting high-temperature, high-pressure liquid refrigerant through a small orifice, in effect creating a low-temperature, low-pressure mist refrigerant.  The expansion valve adjusts the refrigerant quantity according to the temperature of the superheated gas at the evaporator outlet. As a result, conditions are maintained under which the change of the refrigerant state (evaporation) is completed and only gas will flow to the compressor.  If the A/C system is not emitting cooled air, or only a little cool air, the expansion valve could be clogged or defective. This type of symptom or fault should always be investigated by an A/C Service Repair professional, because in some conditions it can cause liquid lock in the compressor and end up becoming very costly for the car owner.

Pressure switches (or pressure sensors) are a safety device, which protects the refrigerant cycle components from extremes of pressure. They also send a signal to a control unit, which uses it to calculate the correct variable displacement of the electronic controlled variable type compressor.

Kevin Peacocke, Assistant Manager at DENSO Aftermarket Sales says, “This introduction marks a significant addition to DENSO’s fast growing A/C Components programme.” He adds, “We have seen sales of our OE quality A/C Compressors grow significantly over the last twelve months and have recently expanded the range to include 44 new part references.  We expect the demand for these new ranges to be just as positive.”
