The F1 Ferrari team may decide to abandon development on it current F60 car, after it’s poorest start to a season since 1992. It is widely believed, that if the team does not become competitive soon with the F60, it will turn its attention to the 2010 model and write off this season.
Major improvements are planned for the F60 for the arrival of the Grand Prix competition in Europe, after a very disappointing start to the season in the Far East and Australia. Ferrari has not adapted well to F1 rule changes, which has seen the team drop from the head of the grid last season, to also-rans in the early stages of the 2009 campaign.
Regrouping and concentrating on next season is also not without precedent in Ferrari history. In 1973 the team felt it was so uncompetitive that it withdrew from Grand Prix racing completely mid season. It then came back with an innovative new car in 1974, finishing second in the constructors and driver championships, before taking both titles a year later.
