Ford is teaming up

with registration systems specialist Retainagroup, to develop a system for permanently marking and registering catalytic converters to help prevent their theft. These parts are being increasingly targeted by thieves, because they contain precious metals such as platinum which can be worth as much as €130.  Under the system, converters will be marked with a logo, a unique seven-digit code and a telephone helpline number. This means details of any stolen converters can be quickly verified. Ford intends to make marking and registration packs available through its dealerships.
