Nissan is to add SCP and BCP systems to its existing DCA and LDP systems.

Jargon yes, put simply, Nissan cars will be involved in a lot less accidents in the not too distant future.

In the June issue of Autobiz, we highlighted how new technology accident avoidance systems, would have a growing impact on the accident repair sector. Nissan has provided the latest example of this, with two new systems designed to reduce side and rear impacts. The company already has Distance Control Assist (DCA) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems and will soon add Side Collision Prevention (SCP) and Back-up Collision Prevention (BCP) to its portfolio of accident avoidance systems.

SCP activates side-mounted sensors when the driver decides to change lanes, and issues a warning if an approaching vehicle is detected in the driver’s intended lane. A mechanism is then activated setting the car on a different course through brake control of individual wheels, to help prevent a potential collision. BCP is activated whenever the car starts to reverse, with rear and side-mounted sensors detecting any objects in the path of the vehicle. Like the SCP if an object is detected an alarm sounds followed by the application of the brakes, to avoid any impact.
