The Irish Drift Championship brought its series to new levels, as they invaded the picturesque South Dublin town of Dún Laoghaire on May 20th and 21st, for the second round of the 2017 championship.
With 85 drivers and 2,000 spectators descending on the old Stena Line ferry terminal, which was turned into a spectacular action sports arena for the event, Dún Laoghaire came alive to the sound of some of the most incredible drift cars in all of Europe.
With Alan Hynes taking the top step on the Pro-Am podium during Saturday’s event, ahead of Dean Martin in second and Chris Burnett in third, it was time for the turn of the Pro class on Sunday, May 21st – a day to remember for drift fans the country over.
With Jack Shanahan aiming to take his second victory of the season, Anthony Galvin looking to overtake him in the title race and the rest of the Pro grid looking to gain ground in the title fight, the event would be one of the best we have ever witnessed.
For Jack Shanahan though, it would be one to remember more than ever before as he was crowned victor at Round 2, "Drift on the Docks” ahead of an on-form Chris Brady in second and Brian Egan in third.
The IDC returns to Mondello Park once again on July 1st and 2nd for Global Warfare 4.
