The new Mercedes-Benz Actros has won the Fleet Transport Irish Truck of the Year 2013, sponsored by Texaco Lubricants.
Over 700 representatives from the Irish Transport industry attended the Fleet Transport Awards Gala Dinner held at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin. RTE TV & Radio personality Marty Whelan was the compare with Mr. Pat Rabbitte, TD, Minister for Energy, Communications & Natural Resourses, the Guest of Honour.
The annual award, which is in its tenth year is presented to the truck which has made the greatest contribution to road transport efficiency in terms of innovation, comfort, safety, driveability, fuel consumption and emission reduction.
Recognised by the expert judging panel, fuel efficiency was a key factor in winning the Fleet Transport Irish Truck of the Year 2012 award. The New Mercedes-Benz Actros has been developed around four key areas: Comfort, Driving dynamics, Economy and Extended product range.

On receiving the trophy from David Spence, Channel Marketing Manager; Chevron Lubricants, Fergus Conheady; Sales Manager, Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Ireland said: “We are delighted to have received this prestigious award from the Irish Truck of the Year jury for our New Actros. This award has confirmed our belief that we have created a truly revolutionary vehicle. The New Actros is the most fuel-efficient truck Mercedes-Benz has ever built.”
This is the third occasion that the Mercedes-Benz brand has won this award with the Actros MP2 securing the title in 2004 with the MP3 version winning in 2009.
Also on the night the Isuzu F-Series won the Light/Medium Truck category with the Iveco Daily 4x4 taking the best Utility Truck Award 2013.
