The Irish recovery industry came under the RTE spotlight recently when two recovery operators were featured in the documentary series Truckers. Narrated by Daithi O'Se this new six part series takes a look at different aspects of the haulage and trucking business each week. Episode two of Truckers featured Jim O'Sullivan of J&S Motors in Meath and Woitek Szopinski of Recovery 24 in Blanchardstown, who has previously been featured in our Recoverybiz section.
Jim O'Sullivan is a veteran of the Recovery industry and operates a long established family-run business which deals with insurance companies, motor clubs and the Gardai.
Woitek Szopinski (pictured) and his father run a small but busy recovery operation around Dublin. Originally from Poland the Szopinskis turned a redundancy into an opportunity when they bought their first tow-truck and have not looked back since.
The programme showed how recovery operators are on call 24/7 and when the phone rings how they have to drop everything to provide assistance. It also touched on the competitive nature of the market and the need for good operator training.
