Automechanika Birmingham provided the platform for diagnostics experts TEXA to introduce some new technology that is sure to be in big demand with garages, bodyshops and auto glass specialists. The TEXA Video Camera Calibration Kit is a combination of manufacturer specific calibration panels and a diagnostic tool that facilitate the correct calibration of the sensors that are part of driver assistance systems, such as the short and long distance radar and video camera.
Video cameras, generally installed on the windscreen of a vehicle, are essential for the effective operation of accident avoidance and driver assistance systems such as emergency braking, park assist and lane keeping.
For reasons such as screen replacement, collision impact or even hitting a pothole, the calibration of these units can be off set. It can also be affected by factors such as changing the vehicle ride height, or where an active suspension system is put into maintenance mode. In these instances the systems on vehicles from most popular car manufacturers will need to be recalibrated.
TEXA’s solution is to use modular architecture to create the best combination of calibration panels dependent on user needs. Supplied as a complete kit it includes, a main support complete with levelling feet, height adjustment and laser pointer for quick set-up. Panels for each make are also supplied with a bubble level where needed.
This unique hardware combines with diagnostic software with set-by step calibration guides for each make and model. To provide further assistance for the technician TEXA has also developed a video camera/ radar calibration app and a park assist app. These are available in the TEXA APP virtual store.
TEXA says its new calibration kit can provide a cost effective, manufacture specific calibration tool and with this area of technology fast developing it will be of great interest to many motor trade businesses.
