Anton Grimes, of the Irish Recovery Network answers some questions on the IRN’s Co-Op iniative.
What is the Co-Op? The Co-op is simply a list of individuals and businesses who sign up to the idea that when you act as a group, you often have better leverage than you would if you act as an individual.
Does it cost to join? Nothing. If you join you will be asked if there is any product you think the industry would benefit from negotiating as a group. If you have an idea, this is then put out to the whole Co-Op. People are then asked if they are interested in purchasing the proposed product. With this information, the Co-op then negotiates on your behalf and returns with your improved package.
Why should I join? Even if you never avail of a product that the co-op helps to negotiate, joining the Co-Op gives us one more name, which helps a little bit more when we go to negotiate.
The first area the Co-Op has focused on is stolen vehicle trackers. The IRN is having on-going discussions with two companies to further clarify what they offer and next month the IRN hope to be in the position to put forward their findings.
