European Rallycross Champion Derek Tohill has announced that he has joined LD Motorsports World RX Team to compete in the Supercar category of the new World Rally Rallycross Championship. Derek will be joined by Polish driver Krzysztof Skorupski competing in LD Motorsport prepared Citroen DS3’s. Both drivers took part in a shakedown event, round one of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill in Kent last weekend.

Speaking about the forthcoming season Team Principle Liam Doran said, “It’s shaping up to be an absolutely huge year, and signing Derek and Krzysztof is exactly what we need for the LD Motorsports World RX Team. He added, “Derek’s past results speak for themselves, but it’s also his consistency and ability to think on his feet that put him on top. Coming from any category, or class, into Supercars is a big step, but Derek looked at home in the car straight away. I’m confident he’ll be mixing it up at the front when we get to the first event.”
Although final results did not go their way both Derek and Krzysztof put in fast performances at Lydden Hill.   Liam Doran said, “Both Derek and Krzysztof got valuable seat time in race conditions, and the team did a very good job. Derek secured positive results in the heats, adjusting well to driving a four-wheel drive turbo charged Supercar class car.”

“Even when you compare Saturday and Sunday just by looking at the video footage, it is a different ballgame,” said double European champion Tohill. “The two biggest things for me where to understand the different technique of driving a turbo-charged car and to get my head around the difference balance of a Touring car compared to a Supercar car.” He added, “Working under high-pressure in a race environment you learn so much more than during testing. It forces you out of your comfort zone and I think that was beginning to show itself when we got second quickest time in the last heat. We were really beginning to head in the right direction, and it’s just unfortunate that we had the incident in the final.”

The first event of the FIA World Rallycross Championship will take place at Montalegre in Portugal on May 3rd and 4th.
