The Dutch Human Power Team (HPT) from the Delft University of Technology and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, who are sponsored by AkzoNobel’s Vehicle Refinishing Divisions, claimed a podium finish in the World Human Powered Speed Challenge with a top speed of 124.73 km/h.
Held in the Nevada Desert, this unique challenge for recumbent bicycles continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of engineering, speed and endurance.
This is the sixth year in which HPT Delft and Amsterdam has taken part and this year the students ranked as the third fastest university team. First place was awarded to the Canadian team AeroVelo, whose rider Todd Reichert set a new world record of 142.04 km/h.
Welcoming the news on behalf of AkzoNobel, Remco Maassen van den Brink, Marketing Director for its Vehicle Refinishes business, says: “Something we have in common with the students is a constant drive to achieve greater efficiency and to challenge what is possible. We also share a passion for sustainability, as embodied in our Planet Possible initiative which encourages industries to do more with less. We congratulate HPT on a fine achievement and we are delighted that together we continue to explore new possibilities.”
